How did Miriam Rivera die? Three theories and jaw-dropping facts about the There's Something About...

Miriam Rivera

Miriam Riviera, the model who was previously identified as a transgender and was seen in the reality TV show, There's Something About Miriam, passed away at her residence in Mexico after 13 years from the show's release.

After Miriam's passing at 38 years old, her family remains hopeful for answers even after five years have passed.

Millions of people worldwide tuned in to watch the reality TV show called There's Something About Miriam. The program featured six men vying for the heart of a 21-year-old Mexican model. However, the last episode had a shocking reveal: Miriam was transgender.

Even though it may seem shocking to modern-day spectators, a few participants on the program have gone as far as taking legal action for psychological and emotional harm. Despite this, Miriam frequently expressed her fondness for the attention she received from being a star on the show.

There's no denying that Miriam, who is often referred to as the 'world's first reality star who underwent gender transition,' was subjected to discrimination from the public because of her gender identity after her show was aired on Sky One in the UK and Channel 10 in Australia.

In Mexico, Miriam Rivera was discovered dead five years ago and the reason was believed to be suicide. However, her spouse insists that the famous person was killed.

Miriam's friends pointed out that the constant abuse she endured for a long period caused lasting damage, which they identified as PTSD. This resulted in her using drugs and spiralling into a dark place, as reported by The Guardian. Her death, along with the conditions surrounding it, has prompted speculation that she may have taken her own life.

However, some people, such as Daniel Cuervo, her husband who is now a widower, and Nikki Exotica, a friend who is famous in the transgender community for making music, are of the opinion that the situation is not as clear-cut.

Before tonight's airing of a Channel 4 documentary exploring Miriam's life, death, and the impact she left behind, FEMAIL explores three possible explanations for the reality star's devastating passing.

Miriam passed away as a result of suicide.

Miriam's 'fall into drug abuse', along with the situation surrounding her passing - she was discovered deceased due to hanging at her residence in Hermosillo, Mexico - suggested to numerous individuals that she committed suicide.

The authorities swiftly labeled her demise as self-inflicted, even though her spouse, Daniel Cuervo, and pals, Nikki Exotic and Robbie Xtravaganza, objected. They recollected how Miriam's sibling had taken his own life, which had a profoundly damaging impact on their mother.

Robbie stated with conviction that there was no way she committed suicide by saying "hell f and no." He firmly believed that this was never going to happen, now or in the future.

Even if someone brought her down from the heavens and said it directly to me, I would still refute the fact.

Miriam Rivera, hailing from Mexico, gained global recognition in the mid-2000s. She made headlines as the first transgender reality celebrity across the globe and also as a guest appearance on the TV show "Big Brother Australia."

Daniel Cuervo couldn't organize an appropriate funeral for his wife because he was concerned about his own safety. Recently, images of a simple and uncomplicated commemoration appeared online on Facebook.

At the young age of 21, Miriam gained recognition for her role in the popular TV show "There's Something About Miriam" that was aired in 2004. The show was a massive success in Australia and was viewed by a large number of people.

There's absolutely no chance she'd abandon her mother and act in such a way towards herself. It's something she wouldn't even consider doing.

Even if she was personally in a very gloomy state or had no sense of hope, it wouldn't make any difference. She would choose to endure a lifetime of agony in that hopeless state, just so she wouldn't cause any pain to her mother.

Nonetheless, Miriam's brother, Ariel Mendoza, and her friend, Daniella Real, express their opinions in the Channel 4 film, asserting that Miriam committed suicide.

Real thought that Miriam gained recognition from the reality program, but this recognition ultimately caused her harm and had a negative impact on her life forever. On the other hand, Mendoza believes that Miriam was dealing with depression during this time.

Miriam was killed by a criminal group involved in human trafficking.

Even though the reason behind Miriam's death is still unknown, her spouse Daniel Cuervo, who is currently residing in New York City, has always believed that there is some kind of wrongdoing involved.

In previous statements to Daily Mail Australia, Mr. Cuervo speculated that his spouse's death may have been disguised as suicide as she declined an offer to work as a sex worker.

He remembered the day Miriam passed away and shared that she had contacted him from Mexico in the morning of February 5th to report feeling ill and throwing up blood. He advised her to seek medical attention at the hospital.

She gave me another call right before departing the hospital at noon, and that ended up being our final conversation.

Miriam was with her mom. Her friends disagreed with the idea that she committed suicide, as they thought that she wouldn't want to hurt her mom.

Miriam was discovered deceased due to hanging at her Hermosillo, Mexico residence around 2pm.

After hearing about Miriam's passing, Mr. Cuervo inquired if it would be feasible to transport her remains to New York by air.

Surprisingly, he was notified that the corpse had already been incinerated, which meant that there was no chance to conduct a post-mortem examination.

According to Mr. Cuervo, someone he did not recognize gave him a threatening call while he was busy making arrangements for Miriam's funeral. The person warned him to stay away from Mexico, or he would meet the same fate as Miriam.

Miriam's dear pal Jeanett Ørtoft had expressed comparable ideas in the past regarding the dubious nature of the demise.

There are those who claim that she was murdered for opposing the practice of exploiting humans and forcing them into slavery, while there are also individuals who assert that she committed suicide.

Ms Ørtoft was greatly saddened by the sudden announcement of Miriam's passing. According to her, Miriam had a positive outlook towards the future during their last conversation.

Ms Ørtoft shared that during their last phone call a few weeks before her passing, the individual informed her that they were close to completing a degree and were enthusiastic about that achievement. Moreover, the individual expressed their desire of penning down a book that depicts their life experiences.

Miriam, who used to be known as Hugo, can be seen in a photo with her three siblings.

In 2007, Miriam did not fall by mistake.

In the past, Miriam's companions have raised concerns about an attack that happened in 2007. During the incident, Miriam was shoved out of the window of her apartment located on the fourth floor in New York. Following the occurrence, she vanished for half a year and stated that she was abducted at gunpoint.

Earlier accounts have stated that the incident was an unintended occurrence. Nonetheless, one of the victim's companions, Jeanett Ørtoft, conveyed to the Daily Mail Australia that it was actually an attack. She shared that a group of unidentified individuals wearing masks forcefully ejected Miriam from her residential unit situated on the fifth floor in New York City. The fall was so severe that she sustained multiple fractures throughout her body.

In the 2021 Wondery podcast called Harsh Reality: The Story of Miriam Rivera, Nikki Exotica shared her account of the injuries sustained by Miriam during the time they were close. According to Nikki, the injuries were incredibly traumatic.

She had to wear a cast that covered her entire body, a portion of her hair was shaved off, she underwent an operation on her brain, there was bleeding in her brain, a section of her forehead had to be opened up and then sewn back together, her arms and legs were both in slings - her injuries were severe and she was unconscious for around five days before I discovered her, she shared.

Miriam decided to carry on with her life after the attack and spent a majority of her time in Europe. She did not pursue her previous passion in showbiz or music. Instead, she became involved in the social scene and partying.
