Blue Ivy Carter, the daughter of Beyoncé, will be appearing in her first movie role in Disney's upcoming prequel to 2019's Lion King reboot, titled Mufasa: The Lion King.

In the 2019 film, a 12-year-old named Blue Ivy will lend her voice to the character Kiara. Kiara is the offspring of King Simba and Queen Nala, played by Donald Glover and Beyoncé.

The first trailer of the movie was released on April 29th and it disclosed the selection of a new cast member. The final credits of the trailer announced "Beyoncé Knowles" and "Blue Ivy Carter" as new additions to the movie.

Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr have been cast to play the earlier characters of Mufasa and Scar, respectively. In the 1994 traditional animation and the 2019 new version, Mufasa was voiced by James Earl Jones.

Returning to the cast are actors John Kani, Seth Rogen, and Billy Eichner, while Mads Mikkelsen and Thandiwe Newton are confirmed to be new additions.

Barry Jenkins (known for directing Moonlight) will be directing the upcoming film called Mufasa that will feature Lin-Manuel Miranda's music. The movie will showcase the backstory of King Mufasa - the father of Simba - and how he met his demise at the hands of his own brother, Scar.

Jenkins replaces Jon Favreau, who was in charge of directing the Lion King in 2019.

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jenkins discussed Blue Ivy's role in the entertainment industry. He recalled his acquaintance, Matthew Cherry, who produced the short film Hair Love, for which Blue Ivy narrated the audiobook.

When I began this project, I wasn't sure if it was a good idea or not. I had some doubts and wondered if Blue Ivy and Beyoncé would even be interested in participating. I also wondered if it was too personal for them. However, when I asked them about it, they both showed great interest and were excited to be a part of it.

He said, "It's insane that we completed the movie before the Renaissance tour, and I believe that Blue matured a great deal during the tour." "The Blue Ivy you witness in this movie is like a time capsule capturing a very, very young stage of her life, which she got to experience with her mother. This created a beautiful synergy between the film and their journey."

In the prior year, Beyoncé was accompanied by Blue Ivy on many occasions throughout her successful Renaissance tour. Blue Ivy acted as a highlighted dancer during the performance of “My Power” from Beyoncé’s musical project The Lion King: The Gift released in 2019.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z have a daughter named Blue Ivy who is their oldest child. The two individuals have been married for over a decade, since 2008, and also have six-year-old twins named Rumi and Sir.

The upcoming release of Mufasa: The Lion King is scheduled for 20 December in theaters.
